Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween! What do you all give out for Halloween?

Sad to say I still give out all the same crappy candy, the Almond Joys, Snickers, M&M's etc. we don't touch the stuff (well my son still eats some) but we still buy large bags at Costco and give it out...I feel like a hypocrite but I think that is what is wanted and expected from the kids who trick or treat...

For us we can have my recipes of corn free candy apples, Mama Ruth's, Lindt dark chocolate, toffee and chocolate apples, other home made candies, chocolate nut clusters, soy ice cream, carrot cake muffins, hazelnut spread, peanut butter pie, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, and more....as you see there is NO LACK of delicious treats here but healthier and less sugared treats and gluten free, dairy free and egg free too. Many of the recipes for occasional use or special occasions are on myfamilysfavoritegfcfrecipes.blogspot.com

If you don't see a recipe ask me and I'll try to post it ASAP!

More delicious even healthier raw food and macrobiotic goodies are on lupushopecookbook.blogspot.com

Please Vote on the New Poll to the Left--Thanks!

I have put up a new poll. If you went gluten free or other foods free please vote on how it has affected your Lupus symptoms. If you haven't gone gluten free maybe now's the time to give it a shot? If you decide to go gluten free and haven't been tested for Celiac Disease yet, get that test first.(going gluten free before you are tested  for Celiac Disease can make the test appear negative for the disease, even if you are positive)  If you are uncomfortable going it alone find a doctor to help you. Find a doctor that believes nutrition matters, I PROMISE they are out there!

No Dairy for Asthma Sufferers?

Although some people feel that dairy does not have any part in exacerbating asthma, many believe that avoiding dairy, especially if you test positively for a dairy food allergy or intolerance, and avoid dairy, can tremendously reduce asthma symptoms.  Research it for yourself...try it...avoid dairy for a few weeks to a month and keep a symptom journal...just make sure you include foods with calcium... dark leafy greens, nuts, beans (if you are on blood thinning meds make sure not to overdo dark leafy greens or any other food on your moderate/avoid list). Then go back to having dairy and use your symptoms journal once again. You are your best judge of what makes your body feel good! If you are unsure of doing this on your own find a doctor that will help you through the process. Some types of doctors that would be able to help you on this path are a naturopathic doctor, a holistic doctor, a functional medicine doctor, a tradtional chinese medicine doctor. Make sure you check references!

It is probably good to just go for the food intolerance (IgG) blood test then you will also know if any other foods besides dairy are giving you issues as well. See the article below.

Food Allergies and Intolerances and Anxiety/Panic Attacks?

I used to have more issues with anxiety (not full blown panic attacks) but I feel much calmer and able to deal with life when I am not eating foods that I am allergic.intolerant to. Please watch the following video and also check out the links below to some articles on the subject.

Interview with Donna Gates of Body Ecology

Check out this interview! Lots of great info!

http://theawareshow.com/connect/gates/

Obviously I'm BAAAAAACK!

Well I'm back! I accompanied my daughter for a week long trip to Italy. My brother, my daughter's God Father, gave her a gift of a trip to Italy, because she is in her 3rd year of Italian language classes in school . I accompanied her to make her feel more at ease (we don't live near her God Father so she hasn't seen him in a while) also my daughter has many of the same food allergies/intollerances that I have so I wanted to keep her on her diet and her tummy/digestion as comfortable as possible.

In Italy they are very savvy about Celiac Disease/Gluten Intollerance as well as other food intolerances and they are very knowledgeable on how to eat to feel their best! I will put up some of the stores/products that we found on  http://www.myfamilysfavoritegfcfrecipes.blogspot.com/  , although all of the products we bought were GFCF (gluten free/casein/dairy) and egg free,  they were still processed food so it's really not good to have much of when you have Lupus or any other disease. My daughter wanted to have goodies though and I had to eat what was available....In my defense we also cooked when possible (my brother rented a house for a few days and we stayed at a hotel for a few days) and ate healthy at restaurants and ate lots of fruits and veggies too! But sometimes we ate cookies and bread and procuitto and chocolate covered pretzels (GFCF and egg free of course).....

Will try to write more on the following too about Italy......

I've been so busy! I will let you know about my news on my cooking classes in the next post. And I am coming up to the completion of my nutrition counsellor college course! and I want to continue learning in college it has been a wonderful experience!

Hopefully a list of what I would like to mention about Italy and food intolerances and other subjects in the future on my blog....

Mark Hyman MD and Autoimmune Healing

Please read the following article. Many of the things this doctor believes in I do to..I guess you could say we are on the "same wave length". I also have researched many of these treatments in this article and have found many other doctors and nutritionists that believe in, and use, many of these treatments also. Mark Hyman MD has written many books explaining his work, my favorite is "The UltraMind Solution".  You can get it from the library for free! So what are you waiting for? Go get it!

New Poll on Lupus and being Gluten Free

Please take the time to vote on my poll on the top left of my blog. Thanks!

7 Things I Learned about Lupus

These are things I have researched and have solid evidence on, ask me and I will tell you the books to read from acclaimed medical doctors and other doctors that these facts are true.

1) Lupus and Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance) many times go hand in hand

2) Other food allergies to dairy and eggs etc (many times from the leaky gut caused by undiagnosed gluten intolerance) also go hand in hand with Lupus

3) There are holistic and natural treatments to lessen you Lupus symptoms or maybe even to reverse Lupus altogether (pharmaceuticals are not the only way to go, they only suppress Lupus symptoms they do not cure Lupus)

4) Nutritional deficiencies (many times from leaky gut and the inability of the intestines to absorb nutrients properly) can contribute to Lupus symptoms

5) 75%- 80% of your immune system is in your gut/digestive system, if your digestive system is "off" so is your immune system

6) Toxin overload (heavy metals, pesticides etc.) can add to Lupus symptoms

7) Nutrition and what is eaten ABSOLUTELY matters and a change in diet can lessen Lupus symptoms.(especially if you avoid what you, personally, are allergic/intolerant to)

Trace Your Genes to Health by Chris Reading MD

Trace Your Genes to Health by Chris Reading MD was originally published in 1984! I found a SLE (Lupus) Diet within the book's pages. Guess what it says????

In the Appendix J it says "Don't let Lupus get you"

The author tells the readers to follow a gluten free, dairy free, egg free, yeast free and beef free diet! Sound familiar?????!!! This information was available in 1984! Can you believe it? I can't...things like this always "get me" (surprise me) when I am doing research into healing my body...

Should We be Vegan for Life?

My take on a raw food or vegan diet at this point in my research, is much like this gentleman's view. It is a great healing/detoxifying diet but then you need to go from there, and add in anything else your body needs. It seems as though there were no healthy vegan societies in history. I have found this before in my research. There are societies that eat less meat/dairy/eggs but there are no lifetime total vegans in history that were studied and shown to be healthy. On the flip side USA eats the SAD diet, way too much meat and animal products and factory farmed animals that are not raised and fed properly.

I also don't believe that cooked food is bad or addictive as some say...if you have an issue with food addiction get food allergy tested and many times you will find that the issue you have with that specific food/or foods is that you are allergiec to it and are craving it unnaturally. (just search for "food cravings and food intolerances" as a search on the internet) or search this on my blog if you like, I have written about this before.

The moral of the story again is get your blood tested, and make sure you are healthy, on whatever diet you choose.

The Incurables TV show on Veria Chanel

I love this show, The Incurables. The show focuses on people that started with conventional medicine treatments, but eventually switched to holistic/alternative medicine/nutrition etc to finally find their way to recovery.

I have Verizon Fios TV and I get Veria Channel, I believe that Satellite providers have it too, for Optimum or other cable TV you could request that they pick up the channel. Here is an example of the show, sorry that it is in so many parts...but take the time to watch...it is about a girl with brain cancer.
