Reminders on Healthy Eating...
I have issues with gluten.dairy and eggs so I avoid those in my diet (am trying to cut back on soy also since I had a larger reaction on my last food allergy test.)
Lots of fresh veggies
Less to no grains
Some low sugar fruits
Whole, real foods
Meat or fish to get Omega 3's and/or iron (or make sure you include nuts/kale/beans and other omega 3 iron rich plant foods- at this point in my research I feel meat and fish in small quantities is good for maintaining health)
Less to no refined sugar.
Less salt (if you overdo)
Less or preferably no processed meats/foods
Less to no canned foods
Water or tea (coffee can give issues to some)
Some things that still trip me up. I love to bake/make sweet treats. I love my dark chocolate. I also enjoy uncured nitrate free hot dogs (very rarely). I get lazy at times when faced with chopping veggies/making healthy foods (cooking and preparation lacks at times)

Ridding Paint Smells Naturally....
Have you moved to a place and it's newer or remodeled? You have those outgassing smells. The new carpet...the new paint smells. Recently we needed to rent an apartment. It was in a great neighborhood and we "overlooked" the remodel but hated the smell and the thought of chemicals in the air.
When you are stuck in a position such as this, here are some natural ideas for "healthing it up"
1) Open the windows as much as possible ( a few minutes to a half an hour is better than nothing even in the cold/hot weather) Use fans for a cross breeze right through the home. Fan in one window pulling in the air, fan the other window sucking the air out.
2) If you can afford it buy an air purifier run it a lot and make sure you change/clean the filter often. If you don't have one of these your body/organs become the "filter".
3) Real beeswax candles. Light them, then and make sure they are always attended when lit.
4) Plates/bowls of onions/lemons/vanilla/coffee/baking soda/ water all absorb the smells and leave their scents in their place.
5) Use natural cleaning products. Baking soda, vinegar, essential oils. There are many recipes on the internet for any type of cleaner.
6) Sprinkle rugs with baking soda and let sit 1 hour and vacuum.
7) Make something delicious in your dehydrator (if you have one- or use your oven).
Cooking anything delicious will make the home smell better.
Use real ingredients for cooking and cleaning.
8) Essential oils... I love lavender oil, mix a few drops with water in a spray bottle and spray away.
9) Himalayan Salt lamp.
10) Have as many plants as possible, research the best air purifying plants. Spider plants and philodendron, are two great air purifiers.
If you have any other tips to add, feel free to comment below or email me at lonedoggy@netzero.com

New Book Find.. "The Virgin Diet"

Another book to add to my collection. Having trouble believing what is posted on this blog? Read JJ Virgin's book "The Virgin Diet". I found it at my local library. She says you can feel better and lose weight by eliminating the top (fi) food intolerant foods from your diet. Sound familiar?

Long Island Health Food Stores
It's Only Natural Food and Wellness Store in Bellport, Halsey's Green Thumb Farmer Market in Water Mill has many grocery items as well as, gluten free items, raw nuts, dried fruits, beans, rice, pasta, chips, cheeses and check out any other farmer's markets too) It's great to keep a list of Health Food Stores where you live or where you travel so you always have food options whether you are raw, macrobiotic, gluten free, dairy free, egg free, nut free, paleo, or whatever diet you personally follow.
When you travel look on-line for health food stores in the location you will be travelling. Also don't forget if you are travelling during the warmer months you can look to your local farmer's markets as well!

Real Life Exercise - Get Moving!
Garbanzo bean salad
Examples of "real life" exercise- walking or biking to the store to get groceries or to do other errands, having a regular garage door (no remote) getting up to change the TV channel (no remote), gardening, farming, going pumpkin picking , apple picking, snorkeling, walking your dog, cleaning your house, dancing, lifting your children, lifting the groceries/packages from the store or anything heavy, walking (on hills as well), raking leaves, mowing the lawn, or taking the stairs whenever possible (including the stairs in your home) , parking your car out further from the store, shopping/walking at the mall, washing your car, doing the laundry/carrying the laundry/detergent, playing with your dog, going camping, shoveling snow or dirt, putting up holiday decorations and lights, taking out the garbage, walking to your mailbox to get the mail, painting the walls of your house, and of course vigorous sex as well! If your not in the best shape/not too healthy, ask your doctor and start out slow but remember EVERY extra expenditure, no matter how small, is worth it!
The above is real life exercise as opposed to working out at the gym lifting weights, the treadmill, the stationary bike, exercise classes not that the gym is bad...it's just the more you can incorporate exercise that's "real" the more exercise you get without even thinking about it and any exercise is really good for your health!
I have way too many sitting hobbies that I enjoy, such as reading, researching, crafting, knitting, piano, guitar, flute, cooking, computer, TV (I watch almost all educational TV) , driving, painting, scrapbooking, card-making, candle making, and much more...
Driving in the car is done way too much in all of our lives, try to walk or bike to your destination if possible.
I do love biking especially to see new sights, so even though I pack my bike in my van sometimes, in order to drive my car to a new location, it still gets me an exciting and new scenery bike ride. Try to find what you love...
Think about what you enjoyed as a kid or what have you always wanted to try? Soccer, tennis, basketball, hockey, ice skating, roller skating, photography, swimming, hiking, farming, a adventurous vacation, rock climbing etc. The sky's the limit.
