Get Your B12 Levels Checked!

Lately I feel like a frozen penquin! I can't wait til spring!

I feel VERY strongly that EVERYONE should get their B12 levels checked! My mom passed away at 48 years old of a brain aneurism. When I researched this B12 deficiency can cause loss of  blood vessel integrity and she could have been saved if her doctor checked her B12 level. Also some the symptoms of low B12 are irritability and fatigue, very common symtoms of Lupus also. The more I think about my symptoms, my mom had symptoms of Lupus too, but was not diagnosed with it.

Just last year,  at 46 years old myself, one of my doctors checked my B12 level and I was severely deficient. I now take B12 shots and B12 supplements. That doctor may have saved my life! My B12 levels have now risen to acceptable amounts. Most doctors don't routinely check B12 levels. This is another case that if your doctor doesn't check your levels routinely, you need to be your own advocate and ask your doctor to please check your B12 levels. Here is an article sent to me by email.

Dear Reader,

Here's a reminder for this week's Health Book Summary topic! Read on...

Vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the most common deficiencies in the United States. Because the deficiency isn't recognized until it has progressed to anemia, it is important to incorporate it into your diet via food or supplement before it becomes a problem. Linked to everything from recurring canker sores to spina bifida, this important vitamin can be found naturally in wild-caught fish, pastured eggs, unpasteurized raw milk, and humanely-raised meats. Also available in supplement form, vitamin B12 is one of the most affordable ways to maintain or improve your health.

1. "A study reported in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2004 found that women who gave birth to children with spina bifida had vitamin B12 levels that were 21 percent lower than those of mothers who had had healthy children. Vitamin B12 is also linked to the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that assists memory and learning." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements

2. "Vitamin B12 supplementation has been shown to enhance sleep patterns, allowing for more restful and refreshing sleep." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements

3. "A vitamin B12 deficiency can be caused by malabsorption, which is most common in older adults and in people with digestive disorders." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements

4. "Given the importance to the immune system of maintaining good nutritional status, low serum vitamin B12 levels may signify that overall nutritional status is quite poor — a harbinger of further impairment of immune status and progression to AIDS. A low level of vitamin B12 is associated with faster progression from HIV to AIDS. In addition, vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, and adenosylcobalamin) has been shown to inhibit HIV replication in vitro. Given the safety of achieving high blood and tissue levels of vitamin B12 without toxicity, vitamin B12 therapy for HIV infection holds great promise." Michael T. Murray, N.D., Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition

5. "One study found that women over 64 with low levels of vitamin B12 (below 280 pg/ml) were far more susceptible to osteoporotic bone loss." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements

6. "As a result, signs and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency may not show themselves until after five to six years of poor dietary intake or inadequate secretion of intrinsic factor. Since normal body stores of vitamin B12 may last an individual three to six years, deficiency of vitamin B12 is usually not apparent in a vegetarian until after many years. The classic symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency is pernicious anemia. However, it appears that a deficiency of vitamin B12 will actually affect the brain and nervous system first. The diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency is best made by measuring the vitamin B12 level in the blood." Michael T. Murray, N.D., Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition

7. "More specifically, vitamin B12 deficiency results in impaired nerve function, which can cause numbness, "pins and needles" sensations, or a burning feeling in the feet, as well as impaired mental function, which in the elderly can mimic Alzheimer's disease. In addition to depression or mental confusion, vitamin B12 deficiency can present as anemia; a smooth, beefy red tongue; and diarrhea. Vitamin B12 deficiency is thought to be quite common in the elderly. Vitamin B12 is necessary in only very small quantities. The RDA is 2.0 micrograms. Vitamin B12 is found in significant quantities only in animal foods." Michael Murray, N.D. and Joseph Pizzorno, N.D., The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods

8. "Many older people become deficient in vitamin B12 because they do not produce adequate amounts of stomach acid for proper digestion. This creates a perfect environment for the overgrowth of certain bacteria that steal whatever vitamin B12 is extracted from protein in the digestive tract. Other people do not produce enough of a substance called intrinsic factor, without which vitamin B12 cannot travel from the stomach to the rest of the body, even if nothing else is standing in its way. One can have vitality and a zest for living at any age. You should not assume that pain and illness are inevitable parts of aging. You can feel better at 60 than you did at 30 by making healthy changes in your diet and lifestyle." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements
9. "Along with protein, turkey is a very good source of selenium, niacin, and vitamin B6 and a good source of zinc and vitamin B12. Almost all of the fat in turkey is found in the skin, and the dark meat is higher in fat than the light meat. The skinless white meat is an excellent high-protein, low-fat food." Michael Murray, N.D. and Joseph Pizzorno, N.D., The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods

10. "Although many people advocate vegetarianism, the exchange list below provides high concentrations of certain nutrients that are difficult to get in an entirely vegetarian diet, such as the full range of amino acids, vitamin B12, and iron. It may be best to use these animal foods in small amounts as "condiments," rather than as a mainstay of a diet. Stay away from cured meats such as bacon, pastrami, and some types of sausages; these foods are rich in compounds that can lead to the formation of cancer-causing compounds known as nitrosamines." Michael T. Murray, N.D., Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition

11. "Deficiencies of folic acid and vitamin B12 may cause some cases of recurrent canker sores, says Flora Parsa Stay, D.D.S., a dentist in Oxnard, California. If you have recurrent sores, she recommends taking 400 micrograms of folic acid and 200 micrograms of vitamin B12 daily." Bill Gottlieb, Alternative Cures: The Most Effective Natural Home Remedies for 160 Health Problems

12. "Although it is popular to inject vitamin B12 in the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency, injection is not necessary as the oral administration of an appropriate dosage has been shown to produce excellent results.” Michael T. Murray, N.D., Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition
13. "A deficiency of vitamin B12, or folic acid, results in significantly reduced white blood cell production and abnormal white blood cell responses. Folic acid deficiency — the most common vitamin deficiency in the United States — has been shown to result in atrophy (shrinkage) of the thymus and lymph nodes and significantly impaired white blood cell function. A B12 deficiency produces identical findings and is especially harmful to the ability of white blood cells to engulf and destroy infecting organisms." Michael T. Murray, N.D., Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition
14. "Anemia is a condition in which the blood is deficient in either red blood cells or hemoglobin, the iron-binding protein that transports oxygen through the blood. Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to the tissues of the body, exchanging fresh oxygen for carbon dioxide, which is excreted by being exhaled. The symptoms of anemia result from a failure of the red blood cells to provide oxygen efficiently. These symptoms include pallor, breathlessness, weakness, a tendency to tire easily, loss of appetite, constipation, headaches, difficulty concentrating, and coldness of the hands and feet." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Herbal Healing: An Easy-to-Use A-Z Reference to Hundreds of Common Disorders and Their Herbal Remedies

15. "Pernicious anemia is a severe form of anemia that is due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Persons with this disorder cannot absorb any form of vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract. Malabsorption can cause pernicious anemia, as can poor eating habits, gastrointestinal infection, Crohn's disease, gastric surgery, and sometimes even strict vegetarianism. If B12 levels fall too far, the result is lagging energy, depression, indigestion, diarrhea, and anemia. Ongoing vitamin B12 deficiency carries a risk of neurological damage. The most common cause of anemia is iron deficiency. Iron is an important factor in anemia because this mineral is used to make hemoglobin, the component of red blood cells that attaches to oxygen and transports it." Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements

16. "In order for vitamin B12 to be absorbed, it must be liberated from food by hydrochloric acid and bond to a substance known as intrinsic factor within the small intestine. Lack of intrinsic factor results in a condition known as pernicious anemia. The defect is rare before the age of 35, and it is more common in individuals of Scandinavian, English, and Irish descent. It is much less common in southern Europeans, Orientals, and blacks. Pernicious anemia is frequently associated with iron deficiency as well. A dietary lack of vitamin B12 is most often associated with a strict vegetarian diet." Michael Murray, N.D. and Joseph Pizzorno, N.D., The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods

17. "This [B12} vitamin deficiency often appears very gradually. Patients may describe complaints such as mental fuzziness, a sensation of burning on the tongue, or poor coordination for months or even years before a proper diagnosis is made. Anyone who has been on PPIs for many months (or years) should request a blood test for iron and vitamin B12. It's not enough to just look for vitamin B12, though. Be sure to be tested for serum cobalamin (that is vitamin B12) and methylmalonic acid (MMA). When MMA is elevated and cobalamin is low, that is an indication of a probable vitamin B12 deficiency." Joe Graedon, M.S. and Teresa Graedon, Ph.D., Best Choices From the People's Pharmacy

18. "Vitamin B12 is made by microorganisms found in the soil and by microorganisms in the intestines of animals, including our own. The amount made in our intestines is not adequately absorbed, so it is recommended that we consume B12 in food. Research has convincingly shown that plants grown in healthy soil that has a good concentration of vitamin B12 will readily absorb this nutrient. However, plants grown in "lifeless" soil (non-organic soil) may be deficient in vitamin B12. In the United States, most of our agriculture takes place on relatively lifeless soil, decimated from years of unnatural pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer use." T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. and Thomas M. Campbell II, The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health

19. "Another medicine that helps some patients feel better is vitamin B12, given in large doses by injection. One study done many years ago did suggest that it could improve general well being, but with only limited effects on fatigue. Medical students are taught that vitamins are useful only in patients who, for one reason or another, have a vitamin deficiency. However, enough patients have reported that vitamin B12 is helpful that I am willing to try this, especially because this vitamin is not toxic and costs so little." Benjamin H. Natelson, M.D., Your Symptoms Are Real: What to Do When Your Doctor Says Nothing Is Wrong

20. "I believe vitamin B12 deficiency to be one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the United States today because of inadequate vitamin B12 levels in food and a poor absorption of vitamin B12 associated with aging. It is impossible to have a properly functioning thyroid gland without adequate vitamin B12 levels in the body." David Brownstein, Overcoming Thyroid Disorders

The Most Pesticide Sprayed Fruits and Veggies

Buy these organic! Peaches, appples, bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, pears, grapes(imported), spinach, lettuce and potatoes. Kale too from the other list. See the articles below.

Also sometimes the stores "play games" with produce. Here is a trick that I learned that makes sure the produce is organic. I have seen the stores put the conventionally grown produce in the organic spot and hope no one notices....

Organic produce has a sticker that has a 5 digit produce code starting with a number 9 as in 94023
Produce that is conventially grown with synthetic pesticides, etc. is a 4 digit number starting with a 4  as in 4265.

My Results from the Lyme Disease Specialist

A beautiful spot to take a walk but always keep a watch out for ticks!

What a doctor! My view of doctors is looking up! My faith is being restored!

I went for the results of my specialized Lyme Disease tests (I am awaiting a copy of the tests in the mail and I will post the tests the doctor did at a later date) and the doctor said he doesn't believe that I have Lyme Disease. YES! This is not why I LOVED this doctor though...

After he told me that he didn't believe that I had Lyme Disease from the tests,(the tests can have false positives/false negatives)but he said also that my symptoms seem to be Lupus and thyroiditis in nature and not the typical Lyme symptoms. He said that it was my decision to decide whether to take long term antibiotics for the Lyme Disease, just in case he was wrong in his diagnosis....

Then he went through ALL the contraindications(risks) for taking antibiotics, long term or short term!

Diarrhea, dehydration, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, C. Difficile overgrowth (you can end up in the hospital with this on IV or even develop colitis and need to have your colon removed!), kills your intestines "good bacteria" , yeast infections, liver and kidney issues...etc.

I told him he was the first doctor to tell me the risks of antibiotics in the office (I had read and heard from people and seen on the internet the reasons why not to take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, but NEVER heard them from a doctor!) His reply was, " That is VERY unfortunate!" I AGREE!

This is a BIG part of why I think people should be their own advocate or if they are too sick have a friend or relative be your advocate. EVERYONE should know the risks of ANYTHING they put in their bodies! Thank you Dr. I. !!!!! If you take a drug any drug get all the facts!

A Great Analogy

This is from Mark Anastasi, at http://www.lupusmiraclebreakthrough.com/

I have not looked into his books... has anyone here read the Lupus book? Please let us know if his information is good or bad. Thanks!

But I loved his analogy of a car...

First, picture your body as a car, that has slowly evolved over time.... and you’re driving this 2-million year old car. An all-natural, organic, living, breathing car. For 2 million years, this car has been using fuel such as:

- water
- seeds
- nuts
- grasses
- herbs
- roots
- fruits
- vegetables
- cereals

That’s the fuel it is used to. More importantly, that’s the kind of stuff it was built on, the raw materials it was made of. Then, suddenly, after 2,000,000 years… that car switches over to – for the last 100 years – a new, modern mixture of:
- sugar
- sweets
- biscuits
- crisps
- chocolate
- cola and soft-drinks
- fats & oils
- cigarettes and alcohol
- pharmaceutical drugs
- chemicals, pesticides, and preservatives (loads of them)
- etc.

What do you think would happen to this ‘vehicle’?

That's right: It breaks down!

The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

I finally got this book from the library, to take a look at. I had requested it quite a long time ago! It must be very popular!

In reading it, it takes a very macrobiotic, vegan approach. You will find information and great recipes with NO eggs, dairy, meat, but yes, there are recipes using wheat and it is also not gluten free.

Like any recipe collection,  there are many recipes that you could substitute ingredients to make them gluten free or you can pick the recipes that are gluten free naturally.

I would recommend this book. Do get it from the library first though to make sure you like it before you buy it.

IgE vs. IgG Food Allergies and Pain Relief

IgE allergy reactions occur in the first minutes to hours of ingestion  to food. This can be hives, trouble swallowing and even anaphylactic shock/death, as in a peanut allergy.

IgG allergy reactions occur 1-4 days later, with pain in joints, migraines, so if you are allergic/intolerant to gluten and you have a piece of bread one day and 4 days later you have pizza, and 4 days later you have Wheaties you may have a generally painful joints, when you go on an elimination diet and take this food out you will notice less pain in your joints....you may never be able to know that a food/which food/s are causing you pain...

This link provides information on IgE and IgG allergies
http://www.ei-resource.org/illness-information/environmental-illnesses/allergy-and-allergies/

It does work that easily, however,  people with Lupus and other autoimmune issues have MANY food allergies/intolerances.

Jill Harrington, the woman that wrote "The Lupus Recovery Diet" realized this in an odd way. She went on a water fast (I don't recommend this approach) . She realized that  on the water fast her Lupus symptoms vanished.  She  then realized it was what she was eating that was causing her pain and she went about finding out what she could include in her diet to stay pain free. She wrote her book to help others figure this out too.

The first thing that I would tell people to do that have Lupus or any other autoimmune disease is to get IgG tested or go on an elimination diet. My favorite is Dr.Cranton's http://www.drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm

This diet really takes out all possible offenders. Then  you can add things in one by one to see if anything gives you pain/symptoms.

If you need help with IgG allergies see a holistic doctor, a functional medicine doctor, a tradtional chinese medicine doctor or a naturopath. Most of these doctors will believe that nutrition plays a GREAT part in your health, but if you are not sure if the doctor you choose believes this, just ask them...

My Cold? Flu? Detox?

I have heard and read 2 different viewpoints on sicknesses in the past.

1) That your body gets colds/fevers to discharge the "excesses" (like a "healing crisis", click on the link for a definition)   http://www.falconblanco.com/health/crisis.htm
that you have accumulated. Excess fats, meats, toxins,sugar...etc.

2) That you get a cold/fever because there are germs in the air and your body "caught it". Therefore your immune system is weak.

My daughter came up with a third scenario, that your body lets down it's guard, on purpose, so you can get sick to discharge the excesses.....interesting....

I hope my body was detoxifying....

Also I heard that during winter our bodies store excess and in the spring they purge them....I am impatiently waiting for the spring....I heard it is easier to do "cleansing" in the spring because in the winter your body doesn't want to let go of the toxins as easily...

My Latest News Flash

Many things to mention...

1) My kids are home on winter break from school...after they were off for 2 snow days last week too...,AHHHHHH!

2) Wishing you all a belated Valentine's Day!

3) I got a very bad cold/flu? on Thursday evening and STILL am not feeling really well. I had a headache, body pains, and fever and sore throat for about a day and a half.  Now I have laryngitis(can't talk) and a headache, and coughing, and I am VERY tired, and my neck and upper back still hurt pretty badly. Before this I hadn't been sick like that (cold/flu?)  for a VERY long time.

4) For Valentine's Day my husband made me a soup I picked out from Martha Stewart magazine, it was a bean and veggie soup so very healthy! It is nice to have a hubby that can cook although I need to help him through recipes sometimes, and sometimes I need to (food allergies) or want to (for taste/nutrition/or what we have in the fridge) change the ingredients...he also gave me a back and neck rub which I REALLY needed.

5) Was going to see Denny Waxman (macrobiotic counsellor) on Tuesday (this week) but he had to cancel because of the weather and he is on a business trip.(just as well with me being under the weather) I am looking forward to getting some insight into what he feels I should do diet and lifestyle wise....I will reschedule when he gets back. My instinct is telling me macrobiotics and Traditional Chinese Medicine is the way to go..

6) Sherry Rogers called to set up a phone consult too..I will call her tomorrow to set that up. I will let you all know what she says about my "case"..

7) Thinking about trying a new acupuncurist that I met at a health seminar. I will let you know if I do that and how it goes.

8) Am working on getting copies of my doctors' files for myself, I have blood test results and other test results, now I would like the copies of their charts.

9) I see the lyme doctor for the results of the specialized lyme tests that he did a week from today. The time flies by...

10) I am feeling a little more happy that I know spring is on it's way as it is staying lighter later, and the weather person said the normal high should be 40 degrees here in NY so it will only get warmer from here!
This winter really got to me, worse than usual, staying inside, the cold, record NY snow(and many other places too), getting dark at 4:30-5:00pm, YUK!

11) I am also looking to find the most natural way to get rid of my heavy metals...mercury and lead.

Hope you are all feeling OK! Hey anytime you would like post a comment or email me at lonedoggy@netzero.com  I'd love to "talk" . Also if you would like me to write about anything in particular....
Have a great day!

So you Have Lupus What Do you Do Next? ( A repost)

This is a repost of things that I feel helped me tremendously and things I'd like to pass on to all of you...Here are some steps I recommend that you try if you are diagnosed with Lupus or any other autoimmune disease:

I find it a help for me to re-read this post myself to make sure I am not "slacking off" or if I have forgotten a part of the plan....

For more info see http://lupushopehealingplan.blogspot.com/

1)Keep a food/symptom diary. This will show if you have a repeated reaction to a food that you need to avoid to feel better.

2)Also create a health "binder" the three hole type that you can put all your pertinent health information : copies of your blood tests, questions and research articles for your doctor/s, supplements, medications you are taking, allergy testing, etc (I also put in a copy of my blog in my health binder.)

3)Get tested for Celiac disease, do this BEFORE you go Gluten Free if you can. The test will not be accurate unlesss you are presently eating gluten. (often Lupus and Celiac go hand in hand, check the internet for articles)

4)Get a complete blood test from your health practitioner and also test if you are deficient in Vitamin D, Magnesium, Calcium, ( B12 and all the rest of the micronutrient testing too http://www.spectracell.com/micronutrient-testing-comprehensive-nutritional-panel/)deficiency in stomach acid. Check mercury levels,(and other heavy metals tests too),hormone levels, and thyroid function, adrenal function, parasites, candida, viruses in the blood, check CRP and homocysteine levels .Check for osteoporosis, bone density. Try a Metametrix Cardio ION blood test if you can afford it. This test includes many of the above tests in one all inclusive test. When you know what your body is lacking correct it with the proper foods/supplements.

5)Test for allergies(with nutritional kinesiology/muscle testing or IgG or IgE blood testing or ALCAT tests) (allergies and autoimmune diseases go hand in hand too again check the internet- look up "leaky gut" too) . Or try an elimination diet Dr. Cranton has a GREAT one!
http://www.drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm

6)Avoid all foods you test allergic/intolerant to.

7)Detox your body(safely) don't try anything too wacky... I like eating tons of organic veggies and fruits and making fruit or veggie juices(always fresh fruit or veggies) or smoothies(with fresh or frozen fruits/veggies). Research enemas/colonics. Sweat with a sauna(far infrared is the best) and sweat with exercise too.

8)Flood your body with nutrients, eat super healthy foods, seasonal foods, raw food diets, macrobiotic diets, drink fresh homemade juices, green smoothies, certified organic food, lots less salt(if you overdo), NEVER eat processed foods, don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, have lots of Omega 3's, no soda, avoid too much caffeine/coffee, no trans fats, no artificial sweeteners, less real sugar or no real sugar. Chew each mouthful of food many times to aid in digestion, swirl juices smoothies in your mouth to be sure they are mixed with saliva before swallowing. Try to eat in a peaceful environment.

9)Exercise(don't laugh at me) I know you are in pain, try small steps, go get the mail, walk your kids to school, park further out from the grocery store, walk walk walk anywhere you can. Stretch! Yoga Or Tai Chi or Pilates. One thing to remember, DO NOT overdo on your good days, always strive to end early don't push yourself or you will hurt and not be able to do ANYTHING tomorrow. Try rebounding(mini trampoline)great for your immune system and cell health! Exercise also helps move your lymph gland fluids!

10)Rest when you need to, say "no" if you are too tired!

11)Stress less... try not to sweat the small stuff, practice breathing exercises, many CD's are available at your local library, Andrew Weil has some excellent CD's on breathing/relaxation visualization and healing. Watch comedies, read joke books LAUGH!!!

12)Feng Shui-or lessen the clutter, clean your environment(don't laugh at me) I know you are too tired to clean! Try to do a little at a time or at least clean your bedroom and that can be your retreat...

13)Do macrobiotic "body scrubbing" (see the internet for articles) You skin is your largest detox organ, doing this helps to detox your body.

14) Try reflexology, reiki, massage, NAET, accupuncture, Active Release Therapy,Cranio-Sacral Therapy,Chiropractic, a therapist to heal old childhood hurts.

15)See a holistic dentist, get you mercury amalgams taken out if you feel that it's necessary.

16)Detox your house and your work space and your world as much as possible. What is in your soap, shampoo, your deodorant, your toothpaste, your make up, your shaving cream, etc.?Your skin absorbs everything into your body. Try to get a shower water filter, or a whole house water filter(chlorine is a nasty chemical). Don't use bleach in your laundry, get a environmentally safe laundry soap, dishwasher soap. Don't use aluminum pans/foil(at least don't let the aluminum foil touch your food, use less canned products many are coated inside with harmful chemicals, don't use teflon pans, don't wear cheap jewelry many have lead in them and other harmful chemicals, don't wear nail polish. Home carpets/rugs and paints have many nasty chemicals in them try to find environmentally safe home decor items. Use wood, stone metal rather than plastic etc. Avoid phlalates in many toiletry items(soaps, shampoos, perfume, etc.)Get an air purifier and use it. Use natural home cleaners such as vinegar and baking soda. Read the labels, look up chemicals on the internet. Some are very scary! Wear organic cotton clothing, or look for bamboo fabrics. Use glass to store foods instead of plastic. NEVER heat food in plastic in the microwave, better yet don't use a microwave oven at all. Be careful of plastic water bottles left in the car on a hot day, plastics leach chemicals into food and water when heated.

Read "Pain Free in 6 Weeks..." by Sherry Rogers MD and/or any other Sherry Rogers books

.***Always ask questions and keep reading and learning about your disease. Doctors don't know everything and there is so much information to learn. You may stumble on something that can help you and you can bring it to your doctor's attention. Good Luck!
